It started with dear friends who wanted to get married at our farm, followed closely by our beautiful daughter who's dream it was to have a barn wedding: suddenly Heart of Rock Farm was hosting weddings.
With over 20 years in the wedding industry (Lisas is a deejay and Phil is an officiant), the transition to hosting a venue came easily.
Our reception hall in the old Onion Barn includes a 28' x 55' dance floor with mirror ball, seating for 100-150 (depending on the season), a 10-foot bar with kegerator & wine refrigerators, an overhead display stage for decorating, prep space for catered-in meals, and dressing rooms for the bride and groom.
The outdoor area includes a beautiful wedding pavilion with rustic bench seating, a fire pit surrounded by benches, horseshoe pits & plenty of space for lawn games, a '51 flat bed hay truck, plus some of the most beautiful sunsets you'll ever see.
We're recently completed a project we've been dreaming of since we opened our doors: two 8-ft glass french doors open onto a huge deck facing Mt. Hood. The view is beautiful and the deck is a wonderful place to relax and visit with friends.
We offer several optional house services to make your planning journey simpler, including DJ, catering, officiant, and day-of support; plus we have relationships with some amazing local wedding vendors that we're happy to recommend.
| The farm is perfect for indoor & outdoor weddings, showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, potlucks, birthdays, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, celebrations of life, and almost any other event you can think of.
Close to Portland, Tigard, Sherwood, Newberg, & Tualatin; and only about 45 minutes from McMinnville, Salem, Hillsboro and Vancouver.

The view of the mountain is spectacular! The location is pretty, unique, and private. We're surrounded on three sides by the wildlife refuge, with a filbert orchard on the remaining side. (Late-night music isn't a problem...the ducks don't seem to mind!)
Our "country dirt-road" driveway is almost a quarter-mile long. Once you're here, it feels like you're way out in the country, but we're actually just outside the Sherwood city limits. To the East we have a beautiful territorial view of Mt. Hood. In the winter, the wetlands flood and the water comes nearly to our property line. It's beautiful...like living on a lake. The ducks and geese are our only neighbors, and there are plenty of them.
The property is easy to get to. It's right off Highway 99W, about halfway between Tigard and Newberg. In-and-out access is easy, with plenty of parking. We use lighted signs at night to help guests find their way.
The Onion Barn is a beautiful place to host an indoor wedding or other event of around 100-120 guests, any time of year. Late spring through early fall, the outdoor area is a wonderful place for outdoor ceremonies, group activites, picnics, games, and just relaxing. Our summertime capacity is 150 people.
Our prices are really reasonable, with a lot of inclusions. We offer optional in-house DJ, day-of coordination and officiant services, and we also have a photobooth with props available. Think "package dea!" Our house caterer, Flour Power Catering, offeres special rates for Heart of Rock Farm clients.

Our History at Heart of Rock Farm...

100+ years ago this was an onion farm, which thrived on seasonal flooding in the low lands and the heavy layer of volcanic silt that washed down from Montana during the last ice age. The farm dates back to 1906...or at least that's when the old red barn and the house were built. It sat empty a few years before we bought it in 2012. Originally we didn't plan on hosting events, although that was certainly something we'd thought about in the past (I'm a mobile DJ and Phil is a wedding officiant, so it just makes sense to host weddings). In this case, though, we just loved the old 2-story farmhouse. And the shop (formerly an onion drying barn) was HUGE...a woodworker's dream.
It took about three months to make the farmhouse habitable. Once we got moved in we started working on the onion barn. Being social dancers, the first thing we did was build a nice little dance floor in one corner so we'd have a place to practice. Then we started renovating. Ceder board paneling and two colors of burlap began to take over our lives.
We realized pretty quickly that this would be a good spot to hold a party, so we decided to host a barbecue and dance. We worked on it for months, with the help of our two good friends, Dennis & Carol. By the time the dance floor-end of the building started to take shape, it occurred to us that this woud be a WONDERFUL place for a wedding. So the long-term plan became to open an event facility in one half of the onion barn, with our shop filling the other half.
We hosted our "break in the dance floor" party in July of 2013. Then Carol & Dennis, who were not yet married, decided to get hitched...so they became our first wedding couple. The four of us worked at breakneck speed to clean up the grounds and get another large chunk of building renovation done in time for their September wedding...and it was a huge success. Not long afterward, one of our daughters decided she wanted a barn wedding, so we built the pavilion facing Mt. hood for her ceremony. Heart of Rock Farm turned out to be the perfect spot for a country-style wedding...and so the dream began.
We've hosted a great number of weddings and other events since then, and we hold sporadic Barn Dances in the Onion Barn. We quickly realized that THE DANCE FLOOR WASN'T BIG ENOUGH for serious dancers, so we expanded it...to 1,540 square feet. This floor is huge!
The farm has become a favorite spot for wedding photographers because of the beautiful farmland scenery. You'll find some breathtaking photos scattered throughout our site.
Within a few years, Heart of Rock Farm will be a working farm again and we'll continue to host events here. For us, it's the best of all worlds.
